Probably the biggest surprise of the Geneva Motor Show was the arrival of the Lagonda Concept. Although the revival of the Lagonda Marque had been much speculated upon, particularly with Lagonda celebrating its 100 year car making anniversary this year (an all the marketing opportunities that offers) no one had seen a super-luxo SUV on the horizon. CAR’s editor Phil McNamara is in China this week, reporting on everything weird and wonderful at the Shanghai motor show. But when he called to say he was pouring over Porsche’s Panamera 425 metres up in the air, we started to think that maybe the jetlag was getting to him. Apparently not – on the evening before the opening of the Shanghai show, a select group of the world’s automotive media was invited to a preview of the Panamera on the 94th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Centre.
Citroen had a genuine surprise at the 2010 Geneva motor show – the sleek Survolt sports car concept. Well, the pair shared the same rotating plinth on Citroen’s stand but that’s about it. Whereas the Revolte concept (revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show) was a plug-in hybrid supermini, the Survolt is an all-electric sports car.
